On Group Testing with a Bounded Number of Defectives
The seminary was concerned with questions arising in computing when the inputs to the computation can be corrupted. Such studies have implications for the manipulation, retrieval and transmission in the presence of errors and noise and they are related to many fields in Computer Science, Mathematics and Information Theory. Important technical tools come, e. g., from combinatorial search theory ...
متن کاملBounds for Nonadaptive Group Tests to Estimate the Amount of Defectives
Group testing is the problem of finding d defectives in a set of n elements, by asking carefully chosen subsets (pools) whether they contain defectives. Strategies are preferred that use both a small number of tests close to the information-theoretic lower bound d log2 n, and a small constant number of stages, where tests in every stage are done in parallel, in order to save time. They should e...
متن کاملWhen is Individual Testing Optimal for Nonadaptive Group Testing?
The combinatorial group testing problem is, assuming the existence of up to d defectives among n items, to identify the defectives by as few tests as possible. In this paper, we study the problem for what values of n, given d, individual testing is optimal in nonadaptive group testing. Let N(d) denote the largest n for fixed d for which individual testing is optimal. We will show that N(d) = (d...
متن کاملGroup Therapy with Mental Defectives
e*tent, to psychotics, has mainly two aims. The first is of purely ^agnostic nature, for the behaviour of the patient during the group sessions, his reaction to the environment, and above all his individual response, is of diagnostic help. The second aim is therapeutic, for during the group session various therapeutic agencies are engendered ^hich may produce desirable changes in the psychologi...
متن کاملAdaptive Group Testing Algorithms to Estimate the Number of Defectives
We study the problem of estimating the number of defective items in adaptive Group testing by using a minimum number of queries. We improve the existing algorithm and prove a lower bound that show that, for constant estimation, the number of tests in our algorithm is optimal.
